A new fast food chain has opened inside Eldon Square, giving hungry Geordies the chance to create the bagel of their dreams.

The Bagel Factory opened its first Newcastle outlet in the mall on Friday, offering customers the chance to ‘build their own bagel’ and see it freshly made in front of them.

Located next to the Levi’s store, the chain hopes to be a hit with shoppers and students with its daily meal deals. Customers can expect gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options on the full menu, with vegetarian halloumi fudge and salmon and cream cheese bagels among some of the chain’s most popular bagels.

Owned by the Europe Cremonini Group, the Tyneside opening follows the brand’s successful branches in the North East of Hull and York, with a total of 19 outlets across the UK. The Newcastle opening has created nine jobs, according to bosses who were delighted to see the chain serving customers for the first time on July 8.

Marketing manager Gloria Cremonini said: “Customers seemed very curious and excited. The store was full of people at lunchtime.”

The branch seats up to 20 people, allowing customers to sit inside or take out after ordering their food at the counter. The Bagel Factory will also offer an online and in-store catering service where businesses can order bagels to be delivered to offices for meetings and events.

Bernice Nesham, Senior Asset Manager at Catella APAM for Eldon Square, said: “We are delighted to welcome The Bagel Factory to Eldon Square and continue to strengthen our food offering for visitors. The Eldon Square branch will be the first location in the North East to date and we are excited to continue to introduce more brands to visitors to the centre. »
