Instructions for getting your packages delivered before Christmas
Supply chain issues. Not enough truck drivers. Entry ports closed. Not the phrases you want to hear about when trying to make sure all your Christmas presents get delivered by December 25th! You’ve probably heard this before, but I’m here to shout it out to you again. Get things in the mail early! As soon as possible! But at what time?
KCRG Reports that the Postal Service predicts that nearly 850 to 950 million packages will be delivered between Thanksgiving and New Years. The total number of cards, letters and parcels processed is expected to approach 12 billion. UPS is expected to expand its delivery services on Sunday November 28.
Here are the times recommended by the postal service for your package to arrive before Christmas Day.
- December 9 – APO, FPO, DPO, Priority Mail and First Class Mail.
- December 15 – USPS Retail Ground Service.
- December 16 – APO, FPO, DPO, USPS Priority Mail Express Military.service
- December 17 – First class mail, including greeting cards
- December 17 – First class packages, up to 15.99 ounces.
- December 18 – Priority mail service
- December 23 – Priority Mail express service
KCRG emphasizes that the USPS says these dates are not guaranteed and may vary by origin or destination. They suggest customers use flat priority mail boxes, which are available wherever you pay your postage. Mail and packages weighing more than 10 ounces and more than half an inch thick and using stamps cannot be dropped into a collection box or left with a postman. Instead, take them to your local post office.
