Chennai-based drone startup Garuda Aerospace has teamed up with Malaysian drone solutions company, HiiLSE Global SdnBhd (HiiLSE Drones) to set up its first aerospace factory in Malaysia, the company announced on Wednesday.

ToutedHiiLSE Garuda Aerospace Plant, the facility spread over 2.42 hectares would be set up at an investment of 115 crores.

“The partners aim to focus on delivering cutting-edge technologies to the public and private sectors across the region,” a company statement read.

“This partnership will define an ecosystem of drones with advanced artificial intelligence, machine learning and deep learning technologies,” said Garuda Aerospace, Founder-CEO, Agnishwar Jayaprakash.

Considered the first and largest in the Southeast Asian region once operational, the facility is expected to generate 3,000 jobs.

“Through this partnership, Garuda Aerospace has become India’s most valuable drone startup, ready to scale globally and confident that the future is here and now,” he said.

Founded in 2015 by Jayaprakash, Garuda Aerospace is a drone-as-a-service (DaaS) start-up. The start-up designs, manufactures 30 different types of drones and offers more than 50 types of services such as precision agriculture spraying, Industry 4.0 upgrade services, structural damage inspection, the management of warehouses and the dropping of seeds, as well as the delivery by drone of medicines for hospitals and the delivery by drone of parcels for food.

In February, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated Garuda Aerospace’s drone manufacturing facilities at Manesar in Gurugram and Chennai.

In June, cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni invested an undisclosed amount in the drone startup, joining the entity as a stakeholder. He also joined the start-up as a brand ambassador.

Highlighting how the partnership will create more jobs in the region, HiiLSE Drones Founder and CTO, Shanmugam S. Thanggavilo said the drone manufacturing plant in Malaysia will also focus on technology and efficiency, thus reducing overall costs.
